Acknowledging the Commitment of your Local Union Representatives
Your Local Union Representatives serve in a voluntary role, driven by a deep commitment to supporting their fellow members. They contribute their time, insight, and energy outside of their regular work schedules and personal responsibilities, all in service of advancing the collective interests of the union.
These individuals face the same daily demands as every member — commuting, working, caring for families, and managing household responsibilities. Their union involvement is an additional responsibility they willingly take on, often during evenings, weekends, or breaks.
Given these circumstances, immediate availability may not always be possible. We appreciate your patience and respect as they work diligently to respond to inquiries and provide assistance. Your understanding helps foster a stronger, more collaborative union community.
Member Commitment & Expectations
As a valued member of Local 556, you contribute to a shared mission rooted in solidarity, accountability, and mutual respect. To uphold the integrity and effectiveness of our union, we ask all members to observe the following principles:
- Maintain Professional Conduct
Represent the union with integrity by demonstrating respectful and responsible behaviour in all professional settings. - Engage and Stay Informed
Remain current on union communications, initiatives, and decisions. Active participation in meetings, events, and discussions is essential to fostering a well-informed and empowered membership. - Respect Union Leadership
Our Union Representatives serve in a voluntary capacity while managing their own professional and personal obligations. Please extend courtesy and understanding as they work to support you and the rest of the membership.
Anti-Harassment – Commitment to a Respectful & Safe Environment
Local 556 is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all members. While we prioritize early, informal resolution and encourage direct, constructive dialogue between individuals, any concerns related to harassment will be addressed in accordance with the union’s Constitution, Bylaws and established policies. These protocols will be applied promptly and decisively when informal resolution is not feasible or appropriate. The local will also not tolerate any form of harassment or violence.
Harassment, in any form, undermines our shared mission and erodes the strength of our collective voice. As we collaborate toward common goals, let us uphold the principles of dignity, respect, and professionalism in all interactions.
